How it works
If you've ever done a rapid test, you already know how.
A tube, a few drops, two lines — the kit millions of us learned in 2020, only the sample is saliva. One rule before you start: nothing to eat, drink or smoke for 30 minutes.
Fill the tube to the line
Let saliva pool, then fill to the mark. Around 20 seconds.
Cap it, turn it over five times, then three drops
The buffer inside does the chemistry. Gentle turns, not a shake, then three drops into the round well.
Read at 5–10 minutes
Two lines: hCG detected. One line: not detected. Never read after 15 minutes.

Saliva carries far less hCG than urine, which is why nobody managed a reliable saliva test for decades. Viora's strip was built for saliva from the start: a patented sample-conditioning chemistry that tames saliva's thickness, and fine latex microspheres that make faint signals readable.
In a laboratory comparative study of 303 samples, Viora correctly identified 148 of 150 positive samples and 153 of 153 negative samples.

How early can I use Viora?
From the first day of your expected period. hCG builds up more slowly in saliva than in urine, so we don't make "days before your period" claims. If your result is negative and your period still hasn't started after two or three days, test again.
Is a saliva test as accurate as a urine test?
In our laboratory comparative study, Viora's sensitivity was 98.67% and specificity 100% from the day of the expected period — in the same range leading urine tests claim for that day. The difference is what you have to do to get there.
Why do I have to wait 30 minutes after eating or drinking?
Food, drink, smoking and mouth sprays change your saliva and can dilute or interfere with the sample. Thirty clean minutes gives a reliable result. Water is included in that rule.
What if I see a very faint T line?
Any visible T line together with a C line at 5–10 minutes is a positive result. Lines that appear after 15 minutes should be ignored. If you're unsure, retest with a new card the next morning and speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

The steps
Collect saliva
Let saliva gather in your mouth for a few seconds, then spit into the collection tube until it reaches the fill line — not the bubbles, the liquid. If you're producing very little, think about a lemon; it helps.
Mix
Screw the cap on firmly. Turn the tube upside down and back five times so your saliva and the buffer mix fully. Don't shake it hard — you'll make foam.
Test
Lay the card flat. Squeeze three drops into the round sample well, start a timer, and leave the card alone. Read at 5–10 minutes. Results read after 15 minutes are not valid.
Reading your result
Two lines: pregnant
A C line and a T line — even a faint T line — means hCG was detected. See your doctor to confirm and plan next steps.
One line: not pregnant
Only the C line. If your period doesn't start within 2–3 days, test again — hCG may not have been high enough yet.
No C line: invalid
If the control line doesn't appear, the test didn't run properly — usually too little sample or too few drops. Repeat with a new card.
Kitchen table, car, hotel room — anywhere you can sit for ten minutes.
Good to know
- Use from the first day of your expected period. Morning isn't required, but a clean mouth is.
- A positive result should always be confirmed by a doctor. Some medical conditions and fertility medicines containing hCG can also produce a positive result.
- A home test cannot tell you where a pregnancy is developing. Severe pain or bleeding needs urgent medical care regardless of your result.
- Don't use Viora if your gums are bleeding, or if you're taking hormonal medicines, without speaking to a pharmacist first.
- Store between 2–30 °C, out of direct sunlight. Check the expiry date on the pouch. Single use only.
Science & accuracy
Why saliva was hard — and how Viora solved it.
We'd rather you understand the test than take our word for it. Here is what hCG does, why saliva is a demanding sample, and exactly how Viora performed.
The hormone
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is produced once a fertilised egg implants. Its level roughly doubles every day or two in early pregnancy, which is why testing from the day of your expected period gives the most reliable answer.
The sample
hCG passes into saliva at much lower concentrations than urine, and saliva is thick and variable. Urine strips used on saliva perform poorly — the published pilot literature reports sensitivity in the 70s. A saliva test has to be engineered differently.
The strip
Viora's card uses a patented sample-pad chemistry that loosens saliva's mucins so the sample flows evenly, and 200-nanometre latex microspheres that produce a crisper line than colloidal gold. Purpose-built for saliva, not repurposed from urine.

Cross-reactivity
No false positives with luteinising hormone at 500 mIU/mL, follicle-stimulating hormone at 1,000 mIU/mL or thyroid-stimulating hormone at 1,000 mIU/mL.
Interference
Eighteen common substances tested, including caffeine, glucose, ethanol, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, ascorbic acid and haemoglobin, at clinically relevant concentrations. No effect on results.
High-dose hook effect
None observed up to 188,600 mIU/mL — well above the hCG peak of a typical pregnancy.
These are laboratory results using a comparator assay. Real-world performance depends on following the instructions — particularly the 30-minute rule and the 5–10-minute read window. Analytical sensitivity figures will be published here once confirmed on production lots.
What the numbers mean for you
Accurate enough to trust — from the day your period was due.
In our study, fewer than two in a hundred pregnancies would have shown a single line on the day of the expected period, and no non-pregnant sample showed two. That's why we say "from the day of your expected period" and not a day earlier: we'd rather you wait one more morning than trust a number we can't stand behind.
Honest comparisons
Leading urine tests advertise results up to six days before a missed period. Their own data shows detection rates around 76–78% at that point, rising to over 99% by the day of the expected period. Viora is designed for the day of your expected period onwards, and we say so plainly.
What changes with Viora is not the number on the box. It is that you don't need a bathroom, a stream, or a stick you'd rather not touch to get there.

Using the test
When can I test?
From the first day of your expected period, at any time of day. If your cycle is irregular, count from the longest cycle you've had recently.
Do I really have to avoid water for 30 minutes?
Yes. Anything that passes through your mouth — including water, gum, mouthwash, cigarettes and vapes — can dilute or alter the sample. Wait 30 minutes.
I can't produce enough saliva.
Relax your jaw, think about sour food, or gently press your tongue against your lower teeth. Don't drink water to help — it breaks the 30-minute rule. It usually takes 20–40 seconds.
How many drops? Which well?
Three drops into the round sample well marked with the triangle. Not the result window.
I read it at 20 minutes. Does it count?
No. Results are only valid between 5 and 10 minutes. After 15 minutes the card can develop lines that mean nothing. Repeat with a new card.
Can I reuse a card or tube?
No — every component is single use. Multipacks contain one tube and one card per test.
Your result
The T line is very faint.
Any T line visible with a C line within the read window is a positive. Faint lines usually mean hCG is still low. Retest in 48 hours if you'd like to see it strengthen, and book a doctor's appointment.
Negative, but no period.
Test again in 2–3 days. If you still have no period and negative results, speak to your doctor — there are other reasons for a late period.
Could anything cause a false positive?
Fertility treatments containing hCG, some rare medical conditions, and a very recent pregnancy loss can all raise hCG. Your doctor can confirm with a blood test.
I've had a positive result. What now?
Make an appointment with your GP or a sexual health clinic to confirm the result and talk through your options — whatever you're feeling about it. In the USAK, NHS 111 can also help you find local services.

If a Viora test was faulty, gave a result you believe was wrong, or you had any incident while using it, please tell us. We are required to record and investigate every report, and it helps make the product safer.

Our story
We thought the moment deserved better than a bathroom floor.
Viora began with a simple question from the women around us: why, in 2026, does finding out still mean locking a door and peeing on a stick?
Home pregnancy tests arrived in the late 1970s. Since then they've become faster and more sensitive, and some have gained digital screens — but the fundamental act hasn't changed. A stick, a stream, a wait, alone.
Saliva is a different story. It's easy to give anywhere, it's clean, and thanks to a few years of swabs and spit tubes, everyone knows how. The problem was always the chemistry: saliva carries far less hCG than urine, and it's thick and unpredictable. Urine strips simply don't work on it.
Viora Ventures partnered with BioTeke, an ISO 13485 diagnostics manufacturer, whose scientists developed a strip built for saliva from the ground up — patented sample chemistry, latex microspheres, and a validation study of 303 samples. The result is a test that lives up to the number on the box, without the ritual.
We're launching in the USA first, then Germany and the Netherlands, with the rest of Europe to follow. Our promise is the same everywhere: a calm, private, dignified way to know — whatever the answer means for you.
